A Girl’s Dress Shouldn’t Break the Bank: Prom on a Budget

Prom is a time for high school kids to experience a night of class and sophistication. Tuxes, flowers, limos, and gowns are all standard fare. In most parent’s and student’s minds, a night of sophistication is synonymous with a night of expense. However, you can still have a classy, fun prom night on a shoestring budget, if you are willing to get creative.

Save on the dress – There are several ways to save on your prom attire, depending on how tight your budget is. Remember there is no shame in getting a dress from the discount rack. Yes, some of the dresses there are awful, but often dresses will get discounted if they are the last one in stock. If you or your mom are handy with a sewing machine, consider making your own prom dress.  Check out thrift stores, since many girls wear their dress once, and donate it. See if you can borrow or rent a dress.
