New York City is one of the major fashion capitals of the world. What better place to find the perfect dress fro prom. Here are just a few must-see boutiques to check out when you start shopping.

Betsey Johnson’s on the upper west side is a great place to get designer dresses without spending a fortune. Betsey Johnson’s designs have a fun, flirty feel just right for prom. This shop may be best known for their shoes, however, so don’t leave with out finding the perfect pair to match your dress!

Lord and Taylor is the oldest upscale department store around. The nice thing about going to a bigger store like Lord and Taylor is the huge selection. They have prom dresses to fit everyone’s style and tastes.

If you are looking for a great, mid-priced shop, you might want to visit the online store like www.dressfeeling.com, this is the place to find a colorful, classy prom dress.

If you want something a little different than the usual prom fare, check out ENZ’s in the east village. This store specializes in 50’s pin-up style dresses that will be sure to turn heads at any dance. Some of there styles are more casual, but there are definitely dresses that are classy enough for prom.

At Catnip Boutique you will be sure to find a modern, one of a kind dress. The dresses here are a little more expensive, but these hot-off-the-runway styles are worth it if you want a more avaunt-garde look.

No matter what your or style and budget, New York will have the perfect dress, and the perfect store, for you.

Prom is a time for high school kids to experience a night of class and sophistication. Tuxes, flowers, limos, and gowns are all standard fare. In most parent’s and student’s minds, a night of sophistication is synonymous with a night of expense. However, you can still have a classy, fun prom night on a shoestring budget, if you are willing to get creative.

Save on the dress – There are several ways to save on your prom attire, depending on how tight your budget is. Remember there is no shame in getting a dress from the discount rack. Yes, some of the dresses there are awful, but often dresses will get discounted if they are the last one in stock. If you or your mom are handy with a sewing machine, consider making your own prom dress. Check out thrift stores, since many girls wear their dress once, and donate it. See if you can borrow or rent a dress.

Prom is one of the only times when a girl gets to dress like a princess. It is understandable that you want to find a designer dress for prom, one that will really turn heads. But when you’re in high school and working at McDonald’s for eight dollars an hour, it may seem like a designer dress is completely unaffordable. However, this isn’t necessarily true. There are a few little tips and tricks for finding cheap designer prom dresses.

The internet is going to be one of your best bets for find the kind of dress you want for a price you can afford. Many sites can afford to sell dresses for cheaper, since they don’t need to cover the cost of having a store location.

If you go into a shop, check out the discount rack. These dresses aren’t always the fashion rejects. Often a dress will be discounted if it is the last one in stock, due to the fact that there’s no choice of size or color. Other times you can get a dress that has a slight imperfection at a big discount. Something like a broken zipper or loose stitching can often be an easy fix, and save you a lot.

Before you buy a dress, think about this: Do you really want to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress you’re going to wear once? Many designer dresses are bold statement pieces, and not the sort of thing you can get a lot of wear from. Also you can consider renting a dress to prom, renting a dress allows you to have a designer look at one-tenth of the retail price. You wear the dress to prom, then send it back. If you are determined to wear a designer dress to your dance, renting will definitely be the cheapest, easiest way.

Dances have changed a lot in recent years. Along with elegant ball gowns, it is not uncommon to see dresses that look like they belong in a club (or on the street corner). Obviously fashion changes, but many parents, and many girls, are uncomfortable with the amount of skin that many dresses show off. How do you find a party dress that makes a girl feel sexy, while still looking classy and age appropriate?

A big part of this has to do with fit. If you pick a dress that is too small, you are going to feel uncomfortably aware of your curves all night. If it is too large, it can slip and gap, showing off more than you want.

The neckline of a dress can also have a big influence on how comfortable you are wearing it. Pick something appropriate for your body type. For girls with larger chests, a scoop neck, straight-neck sleeveless, or square neck style is very flattering. These will help creating a flattering bust line without making you feel like you’re going to pop out of your top.

If you go with a sleeveless style, but feel a little exposed, get a shawl to match your dress. This is a classy accessory that provides coverage, but can also be taken off it you get too warm.

If you are okay with showing a little skin, then that’s fine, but whatever you do, don’t pick a dress that you aren’t comfortable in. Wearing something that’s “cool” isn’t going to be worth it if you feel naked all night. You should never feel pressured to do something with your body that you are not comfortable with.

The white, flowing wedding dress is a dream for many girls, from the time they are little. But what do you do if it’s not your dream?

The white, flowing wedding dress is a dream for many girls, from the time they are little. But what do you do if it’s not your dream? Do you still want to pick a white dress for the sake of tradition? No! Your wedding is your special day, and you should not be afraid to inject some fun and personality into your dress. Get creative.

The easiest thing to change is the color. If white isn’t your thing, pick your favorite color. Tie-dye your dress if you want. Actually, it may be cheaper to find a colorful dress, because it is likely it is not meant to be a wedding dress.

Another fun way to make your dress unique is to pick a theme for your wedding. One woman decided to celebrate her Greek heritage with simple, flowing white dress with subtle Greek touches and matching sandals. Another couple decided on a Disney theme, and the dress was inspired by Belle’s dress from Beauty and the Beast. This may seem cheesy to some couples, but if this is what you want, do it! You may even choose to forgo the dress altogether. Women who have beach wedding may choose to get married in a bikini. For a vintage feeling ceremony, look through antique stores. If you can’t find a dress there, you will at least be able to find some authentic accessories.

If you don’t want to go all out with something crazy, just changing a few details of the dress can add an air of individuality. Find a dress with gorgeous beading. Add peacock feathers. Choose a dress with an unusual skirt, like one with pickups, tiers, or a long train. Choosing one part of your dress to emphasize will make it unique, without going straying too far from tradition.

Dressing properly shows respect for your date. This means a suit or tux for guys, and a gown for girls. Prom is a time to be classy, so pick a prom dress that reflects that. Don’t show too much skin.

In the past, the person who asked the other was expected to pay for everything. However, prom has gotten much more expensive in recent years, and many couples choose to split costs. Discuss who will pay for what long before the day of prom, so you don’t have to worry when the check shows up.

Boys, be on time for picking up your date. Do not, under any circumstances, honk the horn for her to come out. Go to the door and introduce yourself to her parents if you have not already met. Being on time goes for girls as well. Don’t keep your date waiting, making awkward small talk with your parents.

Corsages and boutonnieres are expected, unless agreed otherwise. Pin-on corsages go on the left, and boutonnieres on the lapel. Hand the flowers to your date for them to pin on themselves, but if they have difficulty, it is okay to offer assistance.

You can dance with other people at the prom, but make sure you save your first and last dance for your date.
Don’t be afraid to compliment your date. Both guys and girls spend a lot of time getting ready, so let them know you appreciate it.

Make sure to be safe. no underage drinking. Especially no drinking and driving. This is shows respect for your date, your friends, and most importantly, yourself.

Figuring out how to dress for special events can be a nightmare. You don’t want to be rude by being under-dressed, but if you are the only one in a ball gown, you are going to feel awkward. Here are a few tips for knowing what to wear to your next big special occasion.

If you are attending a party or event, the ticket or invitation will often give dress guidelines. Your workplace will often have a dress code as well. Here’s a quick overview of a few common dress codes and exactly what that means, according to Emily Post.

-White tie (prom, some weddings, going to the theater): formal evening gown

-Black tie (similar events as white tie, but black tie becomes appropriate after 6pm): formal evening gown, cocktail dress, your fanciest little black dress

-Semiformal (some weddings, going to the theater, etc): Short afternoon or cocktail dress, a little black dress, long skirt and top, dressy separates

-Business formal (work): Suit, business-style dress, dress with a jacket, stockings (optional in summer), heels

-Business casual (work): Skirt, khakis or pants, open-collar or knit shirt, sweater, casual- style dress

-Dressy Casual (parties with friends, holidays, etc.): Dress, skirt and dressy top, dressy pants outfit, nice jeans and dressy top

If you can, call up the hostess of a party and ask what she thinks is appropriate. If that is not an option and you know other people attending the event, ask what they will be wearing. For most everyday situations, dressy casual is probably appropriate. You can’t really go wrong with a cute sundress and kitten heels.

Shopping for a dress can either be the most fun or the most frustrating parts of any formal event. You want your experience dress shopping to be enjoyable. If you are buying a prom dress, you could spend hours in a shop. If you are shopping for a formal dress, you could end up spending weeks looking for the right dress! Here is how to find a formal dress shop in the UK.

First, you need to find a store to check out. If you are looking for a dress for prom, try checking out promdress.co.uk. If it’s a wedding dress you’re looking for, try checking out weddingwire.com. Both sites have great directories of shops in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Promdress.co.uk has you click on your county, while weddingwire.com has a search feature that lets you enter your location. Both sites brings up a list of several dress shops in your area, and have a link to the shop’s website, address, telephone number, a summary of their services, and a most importantly, user reviews. Other girls’ reviews can be a big help in finding a dress store. There are several things you should be able to expect from your dress shopping experience. Look for a store with a helpful, friendly staff and a good selection. Dress shopping should be fun, and the reviews can let you know what places are not worth your time.

There are a lot of perks to having an outdoor wedding. Gorgeous scenery, fresh air, plenty of space. But it can also present some challenges, as a wedding gown is not the most practical attire for a trek through the great outdoors. Here are some tips for picking the perfect wedding dress for an outdoor wedding.

Consider your location. This can affect how formal your dress should look. If you are having your wedding in a park or backyard, you can look a little more dressed up. A long, flowing dress doesn’t look out of place on a well-kept lawn. A strapless dress with long gloves is a popular look for these kinds of settings. However, if you are having your wedding on a beach or in the mountains, you will want to go with a shorter, lighter style. Whatever the location, go light on the jewelry. Tons of sparkle and glitter will look out of place in an outdoor setting.

Take the season into consideration. If you are getting married in the spring or summer, you will want to have a dress made of lighter material, incorporating lots of airy fabrics like chiffon. A knee length dress with an A-line skirt feels reminiscent of a sundress, and is a cute look for warm weather. If you are getting married in the fall, a longer dress will help keep you warm. If the dress you decide on is sleeveless, think about adding a wrap or shawl. This can both keep out the cold and add an air of vintage elegance to your ensemble. Remember that you’re going to be wearing this dress nearly all day, so whatever you pick, make sure that it’s comfortable. This is your day, and you want to enjoy it.

The most decision a girl can make in high school is her prom dress. What color and design? What shoes will go with it? Will my mom let me get away with a strapless dress? But there is one question that is becoming more and more popular: Should I rent or buy my dress? For years, it has been common for guys to rent a tux for a special occasion, but the idea of renting a prom dress is a fairly new idea.

One of benefits of buying the dress is that you can alter it to fit you, and you won’t have to care for the dress in the same way. If you spill on or damage a rental, you might end up paying for it. In addition, you will have that dress forever. Some girls like to turn their prom dresses into quilts or pillows as keepsakes, or display their dress at their wedding someday. Plus, it will always be there if you need it on another occasion. It may not be exciting to wear a dress you’ve worn before, but sometimes it’s the most practical option.

The cool thing about renting a dress is that it allows you to wear a designer prom dress without paying the upscale price. Sites like Wear Today Gone Tomorrow and Rent the Runway offer styles by designers like DESIGNERS at 90% off retail price. However, even though rental dresses are dry cleaned after each use, some girls feel weird wearing a dress that someone else has worn before. If this is you, buying a dress may the way to go. However, if you want to wear a designer dress, but don’t want to pay retail price, renting might just be a perfect fit.
